Jose Mourinho's Real Madrid won the La Liga title in 2012 with a record of 100 points whilst scoring 121 goals. Although exceeding that particular points tally could appear feasible, the record of goals scored could be more problematic for the Catalan club.
After 19 league games, Barcelona have only scored 52 which would mean that they would need to net a minimum of 70 in the second-half to beat the record set by Real six seasons ago.
In contrast to the amount of points, if the Spanish giants could continue on their current form they could finish the year with 104, a comfortable four ahead of the record.
There is also the possibility of securing the championship with the fewest goals ever conceded. The "wall of Marc-Andre ter Stegen" could potentially beat the mark set by Deportivo La Coruna's Paco Liano in 1993-94 and equalled by Atletico Madrid's Jan Oblak in 2015-16.
Both goalkeepers finished with only 18 goals conceded. After 19 matches, Ter Stegen has eight, so the figure might not be too difficult to achieve either.
Other records that could be up for grabs are the most games won by the finishing championship side in a season and the lowest number of defeats.
In the first case, Mourinho's 'Los Blancos' (again 2011-12) and Tito Vilanova's Barcelona (2012-13) had 32 victories each. Whilst for the least number of losses, we have go back to either the Real Madrid of the 1980s or Barca's second season under Pep Guardiola in which those teams only failed to secure any points once.
It could be argued that Valverde has already left behind the legacy of Guardiola by taking his team to their current 29-game unbeaten streak in all competitions and potentially has the managerial nouse to break more records in the future.
