There was a clear winner in the Ballon d'Or cermony which took place last week in Paris. Cristiano Ronaldo claimed his fifth accolade, equalling Lionel Messi's record.
In total, Ronaldo won in 133 countries out of 176. Messi was regarded as the best in 34 nations and Neymar in just two. Despite cruising to victory, two countries did not give Ronaldo a single vote: Sri Lanka and Turkmenistan.
The former, with just one journalist in charge of the voting, didn't vote for any of the top three, choosing Bonucci, De Gea, Falcao, Hazard and Kane instead. The journalist in Turkmenistan gave his points to Messi, De Bruyne, Mbappe, Dybala and Lewandowski.
Ronaldo's Ballon d'Or triumph was never questioned, and yet two countries didn't give him a single vote. His magical 2017 earned him a fifth trinket, even if Sri Lanka and Turkmenistan may beg to differ.
