Redfearn was returning to Leeds for the first time since leaving in July -- he had been sacked as manager in May then accepted a role as the club's youth academy chief before quitting after claiming his position was untenable.
He enjoyed the sweet taste of revenge as he masterminded a maiden victory in charge of the Millers thanks to Joe Newell's second-half header in the Yorkshire derby.
The result couldn't completely erase the bitter taste left by Leeds' bizarre decision to deny Redfearn a space in the car park, meaning he had to make alternative travel arrangements to the ground.
While he refused to mention Leeds owner Massimo Cellino by name, it seemed apparent Redfearn was blaming the controversial Italian, who has sacked five managers since he took charge last year.
"It's very childish. I parked in Batley and I am getting the bus back!" Redfearn said.
"I learnt it yesterday but (fitness coach) Paul Warne drove my car in and I came in with someone else so they aren't that clever are they?
"It hasn't soured my feeling for Leeds United, just one man. The win is sweet, it has been tough."
Hull City's place on top of the Championship is in danger after the leaders were forced to settle for a 1-1 draw at struggling Bristol City.
Steve Bruce's side are now just one point ahead of second placed Brighton, who could seize pole position with a win against Burnley on Sunday.
- False position -
The Tigers, relegated from the Premier League last season, were grateful to escape with a draw after Kieran Agard had put the hosts ahead in the 39th minute.
Shaun Maloney got Hull's equaliser in the 73rd minute, but they were unable to snatch a late winner at Ashton Gate.
"An away point is never bad, but I wasn't happy with our first-half performance because we gave the ball away too cheaply and conceded too many free-kicks, which invited pressure," Bruce said.
"That is what led to their goal. I warned the players beforehand that Bristol City are in a false position and I believe they will be comfortable in the Championship by the end of the season."
Derby moved up to fourth with a 2-0 home win over Cardiff.
The Rams broke the deadlock after 55 minutes through George Thorne after good work by Chris Martin and Andreas Weimann wrapped up the win with the second.
Birmingham remain sixth despite a 1-0 home defeat to Charlton, who moved out of the bottom three thanks to Johnnie Jackson's header.
Reading moved to within a point of Birmingham with a 2-1 win over Bolton.
Sheffield Wednesday are up to eighth with a 3-1 home win over Huddersfield, while Ipswich were twice pegged back as Wolves earned a 2-2 draw at Portman Road.
Jonathan Douglas and Daryl Murphy gave Ipswich the lead but Wolves earned a draw through equalisers from James Henry and Benik Afobe.
Ten-man Brentford beat Nottingham Forest 2-1, while Blackburn won 2-1 at Preston and Milton Keynes Dons drew 1-1 with Fulham.
