Rashford, who made a name for himself with a fabulous set of braces in his first two appearances for the Red Devils, has not been named in the United starting XI since Boxing Day.
The 20-year-old's manager, Jose Mourinho, has doubted his ability to step it up on the big stage: "Marcus, in training he scores unbelievable goals, he comes into matches and misses unbelievable chances, and hits the post, and the goalkeeper saves," said Mourinho after United's FA Cup game with Derby.
At the moment, Mourinho seems to prefer Romelu Lukaku to the youngster for his strength and natural scoring ability. The Belgian single-handedly sank Huddersfield on Saturday in the FA Cup, scoring twice to ensure his side's victory. Furthermore, following the arrival of Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal, Rashford's position on the wing was sacrificed to accommodate for the Chilean.
On Sunday United go toe-to-toe with Chelsea. The last time these two teams met in the league, Rashford was the star. "He has been outstanding," said Gary Neville to 'Sky Sports.' "The Chelsea back three, who have been fantastic all season, have been torn apart all day," the ex-United captain added.
Without playing time, Rashford will struggle to gather momentum heading into the World Cup in Russia this summer. The Englishman will be worrying that Mourinho's decision to leave him out of the side as of late will damage his dream of playing in the tournament.
