Gareth Southgate is due to name his England squad for the World Cup on Wednesday, however one of the names that is certain to feature is that of Harry Kane. The centre-forward is England's best player in the eyes of most, and he has scored 41 goals in all competitions this season.
This makes him one of the top candidates for the England captaincy, amongst the likes of Jordan Henderson, Eric Dier and Gary Cahill.
Frank Lampard, who captained England back in 2012 and 2014, believes that Southgate should turn to Kane to lead the team due to his star quality.
"Kane is the talisman and has been incredible over the last three seasons," Lampard said, speaking to 'BBC Sport'.
"Everyone knows Harry Kane and what he can do. He holds himself well and is the man who you say will start every game."
"Gareth Southgate won't probably say that about any player but with what Kane has done, you would think he would be."
However, this being said, Lampard doesn't believe it would be the end of the world if Southgate went with Henderson instead.
"I see no problems with his personality and the way he plays to do it and we do over-talk the captaincy role," he said. "Whoever Gareth gives it to - him or Jordan Henderson - they are the standout candidates and let the team get on with it."
