English publication 'The Sun' reports that the German has set his sights on a move for Bournemouth midfielder Lewis Cook in the summer, with Can set to depart the club.
Can's contract expires at the end of the season and he is expected to join Serie A side Juventus after talks over a renewal hit the buffers.
That has forced Liverpool to look for a new man in their engine room and England U20 captain Cook is the man in question.
Cook, the first England player to lift a World Cup since Bobby Moore in 1966, is thought to be rated in the has £20million bracket.
The 21-year-old has etablished himself as a key part of the 'Cherries' midfield this season, even earning himself a call-up to the England squad to face Brazil in November, though he did not feature.
Liverpool are thought to see Cook as the ideal man to dovetail with the incoming Naby Keita and club captain Jordan Henderson in a three-man midfield and are set to try to push through a deal in the coming months.
