Chinese Super League side Chongqing Dangdai Lifan released a statement on Monday saying that they would not be following up on their interest in Iniesta for the following trio of reasons:
1. Following speculation about the arrival of Iniesta, the club would like to remind people that investments will always be made rationally.
2. We will not flout rules over spending set out by the Chinese Football Federation or distort the market.
3. We will form a closer link with Andres Iniesta, but he will not join us as a player.
It is worth pointing out that just days ago, Chongqing president Gong Daxing said that he was confident of landing the player: "I'm sure that we can present Andres Iniesta and that his arrival will be a huge coup for Chongqing and boost to our brand."
However, the midfielder was reluctant to talk about his future the day he announced his Barcelona departure, saying only that he did not want to face the 'Azulgrana', meaning that there may be plenty of other options aside from China.
Iniesta made his final Clásico appearance for Barcelona on Sunday as they claimed a 2-2 draw with Real Madrid, but it seems he is no closer to knowing where he will be playing his football next season.
