Arsenal continue to battle for a place in the Champions League next season and Arsene Wenger is understood to be determined to hang onto his top players to do so. However, as Alexis Sanchez nears the exit doot, the Gunners boss has lined up his favourite replacement.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who has scored 13 league goals in 15 starts this season for Dortmund, could potentially fill the void if Alexis Sanchez joins City in january. After Gabriel Jesus suffered an injury that will keep him out for several weeks, Pep Guardiola has stepped up the chase for the Chilean.

The Citizens launched a £60 million bid to land Sanchez on August's deadline day and an increased offer is expected at the Emirates this time around. As revealed by 'Sky Sports', Wenger will use the fee to lure the Gabonese striker to north London.

The Borussia Dortmund striker, who was recently dropped from the team due to disciplinary issues, is in Ghana for the African Footballer of the Year awards and is due to join up with his teammates at their winter training camp in Marbella on Friday.
