Up to 30 players and members of staff became emroiled in a brawl after City's 2-1 win over United at Old Trafford. Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Pep Guardiola remained coy on the details while encouraging his players to celebrate winning games.
"After the game, the players shake hands. between them, no problem at all," the Spaniard began. "Some go to celebrate with the fans like normal. Afterwards we went to the locker room. I encourage players to celebrate our victories."
"When we lose we have to accept defeat, but when we win we enjoy. I am the guy who encouraged them to celebrate between each other. And that is what we did. And after what happened, hopefully it can not happen again."
City's celebrations were perceived as a lack of respect by members of the United squad, but Guardiola does not think the derby victory was over-celebrated by his players.
"No, definitely not. We were happy, we won a derby. At the moment the best rival we have to win it (the league)," he added. "When Arsenal win against United they celebrate. We are inside the locker room. That is what we tried to do and we did it."
"All the teams around the world when they win the derby are happy. When we play in Barcelona, when we win all the games, finals, semi-finals, derbies, we're happy. We celebrate inside the locker. At Old Trafford the home locker room has to pass the away locker room."
He did, however, refuse to discuss the details of the row, stating it was the FA's job to conduct an investigation.
"I am not going to explain what happened there," Guardiola said. "The FA investigation knows our opinion on that. I leave that sort of thing in the past. Like a manager. I said to my players to forget about it."
"After Tottenham, stay focused on the game. It's what I do in my career. It's what you try to do to win the game. I try to give to my players the best advice to represent ourselves and the club."
Victory at the home of their rivals took Manchester City 11 points clear of United at the top of the Premier League table.
