Luka Modric returned to his native Croatia today to give evidence in court. The midfielder spoke about the finances surrounding his move from Dinamo Zagreb to Tottenham in 2008 at Osijek County Court on Tuesday, where several former Dinamo employees are on trial.
According to 'The Daily Mail' former Dinamo director Zdravko Mamic is among the accused, alongside his brother, former Dinamo manager, Zoran Mamic, former club director Damir Vrbanovic and Milan Pernar, a tax administrator. The aforementioned are accused of embezzling over £10 million in club funds since 2008 and evading £1.4 million in tax. When quizzed, Modric claimed that he had a deal with Zdravko Mamic which would involve the club receiving only 50% of the transfer fee which was said to be somewhere in-between £18.5 million and £20million. Experts believe that Modric's testimony could go a long way to securing a conviction.
Modric is the not the only big-name footballer that will appear to give evidence, fellow Croat and current Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren will also be in attendance to testify about his £8 million move to Lyon in 2010.
