It may sound crazy, but it happened in the top flight of Spanish football, one of the leading competitions in Europe. Celta Vigo, who lost last season's Europa League semi-final to Manchester United, have been fined by La Liga.
The reason for the penalty is that the Galician side have failed to fill more than the minimum requirement of 70 per cent of their Balaidos stadium for the first two games of the season.
Celta kicked off the 2017/18 campaign by hosting Real Sociedad and Alaves, with official figures recording crowds of just 16,961 and 17,384, respectively.
The authorities decided to act on the matter due to the stadium's 29,000 seating capacity, with TV cameras clearly showing empty stands at Balaidos.
After the numbers fell below the league's rerquirement, Celta have decided to lower ticket prices for Thursday's Getafe visit to encourage fans to attend the somewhat unglamorous fixture.Tickets are available ranging from 15 euros to 40.
