The Brazilian's lawyer Juan de Dios Crespo went to La Liga's offices on Thursday morning only to see the payment of the 222-million-euro release clause turned down.
At around 18:30, Crespo arrived at Barcelona's HQ with the same cheque in his hand and accompanied by other lawyers and a notary, before handing over the payment to the club's director general Oscar Grau.
After completing the payment of the player's buy-out clause straight to the club and avoiding going through La Liga, Neymar ceases to be a Barcelona player and is free to join Paris Saint-Germain.
The superstar will be officially unveiled by the Ligue 1 outfit on Friday or Saturday, after signing a contract worth up to 30 million euros a year.
